90 inspirational Cure Leukaemia fundraisers descended onto France over the weekend as the charity made their debut in the Paris-Roubaix Challenge and the Paris Marathon events to raise funds for blood cancer patients across the UK.
Saturday saw “The Hell of the North” return as the Paris-Roubaix Challenge saw cyclists shake, rattle and roll along the famous Paris to Roubaix cobbled route – just one day ahead of the pros, finishing in the legendary velodrome in Roubaix.
Paris-Roubaix is one of the most iconic races in the cycling, tackling the brutal cobbled roads of northern France in what is an always challenging and unpredictable spectacle – and one that is on many cyclist enthusiasts “bucket-list”.
With three routes (70km, 145km or 170km) available for cyclists, our squad safely navigated the course and finished with a well-deserved beer in the velodrome.
“That has got to be one of the best and worst rides I have ever had, but we are so glad it didn’t rain!”
“An amazing experience and event, thank you to the CL team, sign me up for next year!”
Across the city on Sunday, 50,000 runners laced up their running shoes for the Paris Marathon as Team CL took on their first international marathon of 2024 with London and New York still to come later this year.
Over 50 runners helped turn the marathon pink in the name of CL as they tackled 26.2 miles, roared on by an excitable crowd that lined the streets of the French capital. Each runner had their own unique reasons for running the Marathon with Cure Leukaemia close to the hearts of all of them – from the likes of parents and friends being diagnosed with a form of blood cancer, to Clinicians and Nurses working miracles in hospitals across the world.
The team had a truly international feel with runners from Germany, Argentina, Belarus, America, Mexico alongside a strong British contingent.
We would like to say a huge thank you to each and every one of them for their amazing achievements on the day.
The combined teams have currently raised just under an incredible £60,000 for the charity.
