After a gruelling 12 hours of playing Padel at Manchester’s Pure Padel Club today (Thursday 14 November 2024), Manchester law firm JMW became Cure Leukaemia’s first North West member of the recently launched Club 10 initiative.

The Padelathon was set up and run in collaboration with Pure Padel.

Stars from the worlds of sport, television and comedy came together for the event, collectively raising money for the charity and the opportunity of playing padel with JMW’s managing partner, Marc Yaffe and Sammy Arora, founder of Pure Padel.

Funds raised through this event will go directly to support the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, contributing to the ongoing work of the ATICUS network to benefit children and families impacted by blood cancer in the North West.

The ATICUS network, a pioneering initiative within Cure Leukaemia, provides a vital lifeline to families affected by blood cancer, enabling children across the UK to access groundbreaking clinical trials. By supporting the network, JMW is helping to bridge critical funding gaps, ensuring that young patients receive the highest standard of care and the latest advancements in treatment within their community.

On becoming the first Manchester-based business to join Club 10, Marc Yaffe, JMW managing partner said: “As a proud ambassador for Cure Leukaemia, it is a genuine honour for me to play whatever role I can in helping the charity raise funds for its vital work.

“This event would not have been possible without Sammy Arora, founder of Pure Padel, and I thank him from the bottom of my heart for being at my side throughout what has been a pretty exhausting but entirely rewarding 12 hours. My thanks also go to Dan Clark (who came up with the idea) and Sam Meakin for her exceptional organisation and to everyone who came to the event, whether to watch or to play, and for the incredible generosity of those who made donations to Cure Leukaemia.

James McLaughlin, CEO of Cure Leukaemia, expressed his gratitude to JMW Solicitors for its dedication and leadership in supporting the ATICUS network:

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome JMW as the first North West business in our Club 10 family. Their commitment is not only a tremendous boost to Cure Leukaemia’s efforts in Manchester but also sets a powerful example for other businesses in the region. With such valuable support, we hope to inspire more organisations to join us in expanding access to life-saving treatment for children with blood cancer.”

Professor Rob Wynn, a leading figure at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, underscored the critical importance of this support:

“Funding for the ATICUS network is essential in our mission to provide top-tier care for children battling blood cancer here in the North West. The support from JMW through Cure Leukaemia will directly impact our ability to give young patients access to cutting-edge treatments and compassionate care, right here in Manchester. This support brings hope to families who need it most, and I’m thrilled to see businesses like JMW stepping up to make a difference.”

JMW’s Club 10 membership represents an inspiring commitment to the health and well-being of the North West community, creating a foundation for more businesses to participate in the Cure Leukaemia mission. By championing the ATICUS network, JMW is taking a meaningful stand in the fight against blood cancer, helping to bring transformational change to Manchester families in need.
