Blood Cancer Awareness Month: A Spotlight on Patients, Progress, and Hope

As we step into September, we mark the beginning of Blood Cancer Awareness Month and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, it’s a crucial time to amplify the voices of those affected by blood cancer and to shine a light on the relentless work being done to find a cure.

At Cure Leukaemia, our mission is not only to support those currently battling blood cancer but also to drive forward the research that will ultimately lead to a cure by funding research nurses to enable clinical trials for blood cancer patients.

A Month of Stories: Honouring Patients and Their Journeys

Throughout this month, we will be sharing the powerful stories of blood cancer patients—stories of resilience, courage, and hope. These individuals are at the heart of everything we do at Cure Leukaemia. Their experiences remind us why our mission is so important and why every effort to raise awareness and funds is a step closer to finding a cure.

“We could not do what we do without the support given to us by Cure Leukaemia.” Emma Williams, Senior Research Nurse at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

Blood cancer does not discriminate. It affects people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life. Each story we share will highlight the personal challenges faced by patients and their families, as well as the transformative impact that access to world-class treatment can have on their lives.

These stories are a testament to the importance of the work Cure Leukaemia is doing and the critical role that our supporters play in making this work possible.

The Crucial Role of Research Nurses

A key part of Cure Leukaemia’s mission is funding specialist Research Nurses across the UK. These dedicated professionals are the link between patients and potentially life-saving treatments that are not available through standard care. By funding these nurses, Cure Leukaemia ensures that patients have access to groundbreaking clinical trials and innovative therapies that could make all the difference in their battle against blood cancer.

Research Nurses are the unsung heroes of the fight against blood cancer. Their work is vital in connecting patients with cutting-edge treatments and providing the necessary care and support throughout their journey. Without them, many patients would not have the opportunity to participate in trials that could save their lives.

Run The Nations: A Challenge to Fund 2 Research Nurses

To kick off Blood Cancer Awareness Month, Cure Leukaemia’s CEO, James McLaughlin, is embarking on a monumental challenge—Run The Nations. Throughout September, James will run across various locations in the UK with the goal of raising £100,000. These funds will be used to support the funding of two Research Nurses, ensuring that even more patients can access the life-saving care they need.

Run The Nations is more than just a fundraising effort; it’s a symbol of the dedication and commitment that Cure Leukaemia has towards eradicating blood cancer. James’ journey will take him to communities across the country, spreading awareness and rallying support for the cause. Every step he takes is a step closer to a future where blood cancer is no longer a death sentence.
