The Hunt Family’s Mission: Running, Cycling, and Raising Funds for Cure Leukaemia
For the Hunt family, supporting Cure Leukaemia isn’t just about fundraising—it’s a cause that hits close to home. After Tom Hunt’s battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and three years of treatment at The Christie Hospital in Manchester, he and his family are dedicated to giving back.

Over the years, they’ve taken on numerous challenges to raise funds, including last year’s 300-mile London to Paris cycle ride, completed by Tom, his brother Alex, and their dad Ian.
In 2025, Tom and Alex will trade their bikes for running shoes as they tackle the Paris Marathon alongside three friends, while their dad keeps the tradition alive by once again riding from London to Paris for Cure Leukaemia just two months later. Their goal? To raise funds for vital leukaemia research, helping to fund life-saving treatments and give more families the same hope they were given.
Tom’s journey began in 2018 when he was diagnosed after falling ill on a gap-year trip. Today, five years cancer-free and three years treatment-free, he is looking forward to this new challenge.

“I go to the gym a lot, so I keep myself in good nick. I go five or six times a week. From being ill, I’m very conscious of looking after myself. I don’t really do much cardio, though, so it’s going to be a shock to the system!” Tom admitted.
The family sees this fundraising challenge as a way to mark Tom’s recovery while supporting others on a similar path.
Tom’s father reflected on how far treatment for leukaemia has come:
“Forty years ago, this would have been the end for Tom, but thanks to developments in the treatment of the disease, he has now been cancer-free for five years and treatment-free for three.”
He added, “To celebrate this triumph and to support others on a similar journey, we are doing this challenges with Cure Leukaemia, and our goal is to raise funds as a family, contributing to the essential research so there are more success stories like Tom’s.”
With Tom and Alex lacing up his running shoes and his dad continuing to push the pedals, the Hunt family is proving that resilience, gratitude, and determination can drive meaningful change—one step and one mile at a time.
