Deutsche Bank Staff Set For Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run Business Challenge

16 employees from Deutsche Bank’s Birmingham office have signed up to take part in the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run Business Challenge to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia this October. Associate at the Bank, Sharon Baker, was the first to sign up for what will be her first half marathon and she has recruited a further 15 runners so that two Business Challenge teams can be entered for the event.

The teams will be raising funds for Cure Leukaemia, one of Deutsche Bank’s Charities of the Year, with every penny contributing to Deutsche Bank Birmingham’s target of £50,000 in 2018 to fund a specialist research nurse for twelve months.

She said: “I’m really excited to be taking part in my first half marathon later this year. I’d never run properly before this year (maybe for the bus or to the chip shop!) but my fitness and mental health has noticeably improved and I enjoyed the 10K so much I really want to test myself over 13.1miles. I’m am starting my half marathon training on 3rd June with the Running Group I joined for the 10k (Absolute Beginners) and a few of my club mates will also be running”.

“It’s great to be doing this for Cure Leukaemia. I’ve got to know the team so well over the last year and I’ve also been privileged to meet some of the patients and staff our fundraising is helping and I find it really very inspiring.”

Jackie Kelly, Cure Leukaemia’s Head of Corporate Partnerships said: “Sharon played a huge role in helping Cure Leukaemia become one of Deutsche Bank’s Charities of the Year and we are so pleased to see her leading such a strong Deutsche Bank team for the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run.

We hope that she can inspire more first-time runners and females to take part in this memorable annual event.”

“Deutsche Bank’s Birmingham office has a set an inspirational target of £50,000 to fund one of our specialist research nurses for one year to ensure patients continue to access the latest, pioneering treatments for blood cancer.”

Not willing to stop at 16, Sharon has now set her sights on recruiting more runners from the bank to sign up and take part for Cure Leukaemia.

She said: “I’m really keen to encourage more of my colleagues to take part so we can enter the Business Challenge. I’d love to recruit 50 runners from Deutsche Bank over the summer!”
