The Tour of the TAP 2022 has officially raised its target of £25,000 on the same day that Chief Executive James McLaughlin finished The Tour of the TAP 2021– an amazing total of £50,000 over the last twelve months.
This year, the incredible feat saw Cure Leukaemia Chief Executive James McLaughlin run the equivalent of 5 marathons in just under 3 weeks, and not only set with running 14km at each of the 12 TAP Centres in the UK, but then also taking on the iconic London Marathon.
Over the course of the 3 week period, James completed over 130 miles, running 266,617 steps in total and burning 17,685 calories.
All the funds raised will go straight back into the TAP Network that Cure Leukaemia provides funding to, working to connect blood cancer patients to potentially lifesaving trials and treatment.
The TAP Network consists of a network of specialist CL Research Nurses based in 12 of the UK’s biggest cities and a facilitatory Hub at the Centre for Clinical Haematology (CCH) in Birmingham.
The CL Research Nurses across the UK and the co-ordinating Hub allow these trials to run, giving patients from a catchment area of over 20 million people access to potentially life-saving treatments not currently available through standard care.
£50,000 funds a Cure Leukaemia research nurse, like Hayley Ellis, who is based at the Centre for Clinical Haematology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and through the funding of these nurses, it enables more trials to open.
Within the last twelve months, 4 brand new trials have been opened, and since the TAP Network was formed 1,100 patients have benefited from the novel and pioneering treatments.

James expressed gratitude for everyone who supported him this year, and last year, and thanked everyone who had donated and all the sponsors for the event.
“I wanted to thank everyone for their incredibly generous support, especially Inchcape UK, and to everyone who ran with me around the different centres and supported us in their own fundraising efforts.
A huge thank you to every one of the TAP Centres for not only making me feel so welcomed, but also for their support and their hard work year round.”
Our headline sponsor, Inchcape UK , supported us throughout the event at various showrooms across the UK, and even took part in their own fundraising activities to show support.
James took on the challenge during Blood Cancer Awareness Month, and as part of our Your 14 campaign, encouraging people to take on their own challenges at home to raise vital funds – whether it’s running 14km, swimming, or even baking 14 cakes.
