Darren Priddin and his friend Sarah Wilson, also known as The Loon Runners, are taking on an epic challenge and will be running an impressive total of 4 marathons in just 4 days to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia.
It’s safe to say they’re both keen runners, and Darren has run approximately 62 marathons in his life, 15 of those have been within the last year.
Darren has a very personal connection to the charity and spoke about his motivations for taking on such a challenge:
“My sister Jacky was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma back in July 2015.
Since then, she has had three lots of treatment to help to try and get rid of the cancer.
Firstly, she had chemotherapy that put her into remission in December 2016.
The cancer unfortunately reoccurred in July 2016 and she was given a stem cell transplant which put her back in remission in February 2017.
Sadly, the cancer reoccurred again in September 2021 and we thought there was no other treatment.Amazingly, modern science gave her another chance with CAR T-cell therapy.
It is nothing short of a modern medical miracle that she is alive, and this is all thanks to research and clinical trials that Cure Leukaemia are currently funding.”
Darren and Sarah have a fundraising target of raising £2,000 for Cure Leukaemia, and have currently raised over £1,770.
Over the past 12 months, Darren has run an astonishing 2,539 miles in preparation for this small feat, and between him and Sarah, they’ve completed a total of 30 marathons.
Over the 4 day, Darren and Sarah will also be joined by some friends along the way for support, including Daniel Priddin, Darren’s nephew, Mike Wilson, Sarah’s husband, and Gary Wade and Joni Southall, who run the See York Run York organisation.
With friends and family that will be joining Darren and Sarah, by the end of the 4 days, the group will have completed a combined total of 26 marathons between them.
The 4 marathons will take place between Thursday 17th – 20th November 2022, and will take place around the Fewston and Swinsty reservoirs in Yorkshire, with the events run by It’s Grim Up North Running.
