On Saturday 21st May 2022, Suzanne Everill will run in the Worcester 10K to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia, 7 years after her father-in-law was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.
Suzanne, who works at the NHS Wellbeing Emotional Support Team, Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health Care Trust, spoke to us about why she’s taking on the run.
“My father-in-law was Diagnosed in 2015 with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia when he was 65 years old. Roy agreed to take part in an AML 18 trial as he was reasonably fit. Between diagnosis and transplant Roy Was in hospital for four and a half months on and off. The treatment was very intensive.”
Suzanne also spoke about how Roy recovered, and how he’s doing now, 6 years after recieving a stem cell transplant.
Roy Had a 99% transplant match through the Anthony Nolan register. The transplant took place on the 12th May 2016.
Since then, Roy has been going from strength to strength and has yearly check-ups.
Roy and his family will be forever grateful for the amazing support from the staff at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Haematology Department.
