Nisa Annual Dinner raises £45k for Cure Leukaemia!

26th November 2013

Over the past four years a group of Nisa retailers based in the West Midlands have held a Midlands Annual Dinner at The Holiday Inn, Birmingham Airport and this year they chose to support Cure Leukaemia on Saturday 9th November.

The £45,000 that was raised on the evening was topped off by a fantastic evening of entertainment included a stand up performance from comedian Hardeep Singh Kohli, music entertainment and an Indian banquet for the 250 guests that attended. To raise these magnificent funds on the evening, a charity auction took place with top lots comprising of official hospitality for 12 at the Twenty 20 International England vs India, signed and framed England and Liverpool FC football shirts and tickets for Manchester United vs Manchester City amongst others. In addition to this there was a silent auction and a prize raffle to raise as much money as possible for Cure Leukaemia, with the team attending the event to show how donations such as these make a huge difference to people living with Leukaemia in the Midlands.

As well as the funds raised on the night the dinner is supported by Nisa’s Making A Difference Locally (MADL) charity, which all of the retailers involved participate in. Throughout the year the Nisa retailers raise money in their stores through the sale of selected products where up to 5p from the sale of participating items, including the entire Heritage own label range, are collated into a fund. These collated funds throughout the year were donated to Cure Leukaemia.

Jet Sunner, Nisa retailer and organiser of the event, said: “This year was a huge success and we managed to donate more than we have before with £45,000 being raised on the evening and through the Making A Difference Locally charity. This will make a huge difference to Cure Leukaemia and the work that they do for people living with blood cancer in the midlands region and we are very proud to have helped such a fantastic charity.”

James McLaughlin, chief executive of Cure Leukaemia said: “I’d like to thank NISA, The Holiday Inn and everyone who attended the dinner for raising such a fantastic sum of money for Cure Leukaemia. It shows the wonderful community spirit that NISA and their ‘Making A Difference Locally’ initiative is able to generate. Your donations will directly help save lives and I hope you had a wonderful evening in the process, thank you all.”

The £45,000 raised on this evening will give leukaemia patients around the Midlands access drug treatments that are not available on the NHS and, in doing so, give them a chance to beat this terrible disease. It costs £40,000 to fund a nurse to administer these treatments each year so the evening’s fundraising could make a real difference. Once again a huge thank you from everyone at Cure Leukaemia!
