Brean Golf Club in Somerset raised £5,700 for Cure Leukaemia in 2017. Club Captain for the year, Dave Porter, is good friends with former member Richard Griffiths who's son Tom is in remission from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) and Dave decided to choose Cure Leukaemia for the club to support throughout his tenure.
The year was a great success and the cheque was presented to Richard and Tom on behalf of the charity earlier this year. Tom, who was diagnosed aged just four, endured 3 three years of gruelling treatment but is thankfully now in remission. A huge Villa fan, Tom made the headlines in the Birmingham Mail in 2015 after his dad posted this photo on Twitter, generating a huge response from fellow fans and players:
Video messages of thanks were shown to the Club members, at their presentation evening in The Tavern at Brean Leisure Park, from former Crystal Palace, Wolves and England footballer and former blood cancer patient Geoff Thomas and one of Cure Leukaemia's specialist research nurses Donna Walsh:
