Dragonboat giant screen set to wow spectators

20th May 2015

In a first for one of Birmingham's most popular annual fundraising events, the 2015 Brindleyplace Dragonboat Festival will feature a giant screen, which will broadcast live race action and raise funds for the day's chosen charity, Cure Leukaemia.

The 22 square metre screen will be located in Central Square, Brindleyplace, at a specially designated Cure Leukaemia 'Fan Zone', where it will relay a live feed of the Dragonboat races taking place close by on the Birmingham and Worcester canal.

With canal side viewing space at a premium, the giant screen is set to be a real hit with the thousands of spectators expected to attend by allowing them to enjoy the family entertainment taking place in Central Square throughout the day, without missing a minute of the action from the canal.

The giant screen is being installed by Birmingham-based digital specialists, Elonex Outdoor Media, who are an official charity partner of Cure Leukaemia.

In addition to streaming live race action on the screen, Elonex Outdoor Media will also broadcast advertisements from local businesses, and in a bid to bolster funds raised at the event will donate the resulting advertising revenues to Cure Leukaemia.

Alison McKenna, Senior Marketing Executive for Brindleyplace, commented:

“The live race screening at this year’s Dragonboat Festival will add a new dimension for Brindleyplace’s 20th anniversary year; forging a link between the racing on the canal side and the family entertainment in Central Square.

The exclusive advertising slots available on the screen on the day will also allow local businesses to tap into the Brindleyplace audience like never before and the great part is that all the funds raised from the advertising initiative will go directly back to Cure Leukaemia.”

Jackie Kelly, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Cure Leukaemia added:

“Elonex Outdoor Media as Cure Leukaemia’s official charity partner is always looking for fresh and innovative ways to help raise funds for the charity and this idea is proof of that.

We hope local businesses take up this fantastic opportunity to reach a huge audience at Brindleyplace on May 30th and help raise vital funds for Cure Leukaemia in the process.”

The Brindleyplace Dragonboat Festival takes place on Saturday 30th May 2015. On the day, teams from twenty West Midlands-based businesses will go head to head racing traditional Chinese longboats on the canal in front of the Barclaycard Arena, whilst raising funds for Cure Leukaemia.

Events and family entertainment will run all day in Central Square, Brindleyplace where the Elonex giant screen will be located.

Local businesses who are interested in advertising on the giant screen, and in turn raising funds for Cure Leukaemia should contact Josie Tucker at Elonex Outdoor Media, on 0121 455 5000 urgently.
