Walkabout announced as Team Cure Leukaemia HQ!

18th August 2014

Walkabout Birmingham has been announced as our official headquarters for the BUPA Great Birmingham Run on Sunday October 19th 2014.

The leading venue on Broad Street is in a perfect location; just yards from the finish line where the participants will complete the 13.1 mile course. The Australian themed bar will be strikingly branded with the charity’s current “let’s” campaign.

In collaboration with the University of Birmingham the “Birmingham, let’s cure leukaemia” campaign aims to help the city find a cure for blood cancer within the next thirty years and the University is helping recruit 1000 runners and fundraise £250,000 for this year’s run.

Team Cure Leukaemia will have access to the venue on the morning of the race where they can safely store their belongings and prepare for the race, with family and friends allowed in throughout the event too. After the race, runners are then invited back for food and a drink to celebrate with family and friends all courtesy of Walkabout Birmingham. Cure Leukaemia Trustee Phil Upton will be DJ-ing, and a student night will be held in the evening if the runners want to extend their celebrations into the night!

Walkabout Birmingham will also be promoting the run for Cure Leukaemia through their mailing lists and social media platforms. Trent Chapman, Sales and Marketing Executive for Walkabout Birmingham said,

“We are really looking forward to hosting Cure Leukaemia’s runners for the Bupa Great Birmingham Run in October. It’s sure to be a buzzing atmosphere as we are so close to the finish line and we will make sure that buzz carries on long into the night! I lost my uncle to leukaemia in Australia so I’m very proud to be supporting a charity that can find a cure for this disease right here in Birmingham.”

James McLaughlin, the Chief Executive of Cure Leukaemia said,

“We are always very keen to thank everyone who fundraises for us but especially our runners who make such a phenomenal effort to train and take on the challenging course for Cure Leukaemia.

Walkabout Birmingham will be the perfect venue to have our headquarters and after-party celebrations with our runners’ friends and families.”

If you would like to run for Cure Leukaemia and the University of Birmingham you can still sign up by emailing joe@cureleukaemia.co.uk or by calling 0121 236 9202. Cure Leukaemia will pay for your registration fee, provide you with training tips, a branded running shirt and an invitation to the biggest post-race party at Walkabout Birmingham!
