BIRMINGHAM City are the Club Legends Cup champions after clinching the trophy in a dramatic penalty shootout infront of 3500 spectators at the LG Arena.
Blues fan Richard Flanagan who bid to play in the tournament scored the crucial spot-kick to settle a tight contest after a 0-0 draw with West Bromwich Albion in the final. The 36-year-old from Stetchford kept his composure to beat player of the tournament Russell Hoult from the spot with all of their other penalty takers failing to convert their kicks.
“It was a dream come true,” beamed Richard.
“The old players have made me feel so welcome and to score that penalty was the perfect end to the day. I’ve watched these lads from the terraces so to play alongside them and to have the banter with them has been brilliant.
“To have such a great day and help a great cause along the way is fantastic.”
