More than 50 artworks have been generously donated by prominent UK artists, and with estimates kept low there will be much excitement on the night.

This year’s RBSA Charity Auction will be run by Bonhams and is being held in collaboration with Deutsche Bank Birmingham and one of its UK Charities of the Year, Cure Leukaemia. The auction will be held at Deutsche Bank’s stunning Brindleyplace headquarters.

Lot 11, Graham Blaine RBSA, 'Orange Boat', Estimate: £250

Auction highlights include works by Ken Howard OBE, one of the best-known oil painters in the UK, Barrie Cook, one of the country’s leading abstract painters, and Hilary Paynter, a prominent printmaker.

Ceramicist Andrew Matheson, landscape artist Rob Perry, Ed Isaacs, and Louise Cobbold are also among artists who have donated works. View images of the pieces HERE. View the auction catelogue HERE

Louise has previously raised money for Cure Leukaemia auctioning works featuring well-known footballers at Wolverhampton Wanderers. For this event she has donated a portrait of rock legend Robert Plant. Money raised by this work will go to Cure Leukaemia.

Last year’s inaugural auction raised nearly £10,000. Tickets are £10 with income from ticket sales going to Cure Leukaemia, and proceeds from sales raising funds for the RBSA.

Robert Neil, President of the RBSA and a past finalist in the BP Portrait Award, said: ‘The auction is sure to be a thoroughly enjoyable evening as well as a great opportunity to raise much-needed funds for two very worthy causes.

Bonhams helped ensure last year’s event really went with a swing!’

Both established collectors and those new to buying art are welcome at the event, which is an exciting introduction to the art world. The RBSA does not receive any regular government funding, and is constantly seeking innovative ways to raise money. The Charity Auction supplements annual donations from charities, corporates, and individuals.

Guests on the night will be invited to support Cure Leukaemia with an optional donation in addition to ticket sales.

“We are delighted to be working with the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and extremely appreciative that we will be the beneficiaries of the auction of Louise Cobbold’s fantastic painting of Robert Plant,” said Jackie Kelly, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Cure Leukaemia.

“We are grateful to Louise for giving up her time and being willing to share her talent to produce this painting and look forward to seeing how much this raises on the night to help fund the vital work of Cure Leukaemia. We are also grateful to photographer Sam Bagnall for donating the original image that inspired this fantastic piece.

“Our partnership with Deutsche Bank promises to be transformational for the charity and we are really enjoying working with the bank at a number of different events. We are sure that this will be another successful evening in Birmingham showcasing fantastic pieces of artwork.”

A spokesperson for Bonhams added: “‘Bonhams is honoured to be asked to assist with the auction of these works in order to raise funds for these very worthy charitable causes.”
