The Copa Del Cure Leukaemia is coming to the home of the England team at St George’s Park – and you can be a part of it!
Cure Leukaemia are staging a six-a-side football tournament at the England national team’s training base, offering players the chance to live like professionals for a day, feature in matches on the FIFA-approved 3G pitch and then enjoy an evening dinner with guest speakers at the on-site Hilton Hotel.
The tournament will also feature a number of celebrity guest players and managers, guaranteed to add a star-studded element to a great day of football at the FA’s National Football Centre.
Southampton legend and former England midfielder Matt Le Tissier has already confirmed his attendance to grace one of the teams, while former Wolves and England-Under-21 goalkeeper and now respected Sky Sports pundit Matt Murray will be managing a team.
All the proceeds from the event will be donated to Cure Leukaemia, and the ongoing battle to eradicate all forms of blood cancer, a disease which has affected many players and their families within football in recent years.
“The Copa Del Cure Leukaemia will undoubtedly be a keenly-contested competition but played out in a great atmosphere at the fantastic facilities at St George’s Park,” says Cure Leukaemia CEO James McLaughlin.
“This event provides the perfect opportunity for football fans to live like a professional for a day, starting right from getting changed in the England dressing rooms used by Gareth Southgate’s World Cup semi-finalists.
“As well as the football itself, there will be plenty of additional elements to the event which will add to the fun, and we are working to ensure a number of footballing legends will be involved on the day.
“All of this will be followed by a dinner in the evening, including some top guest speakers, to round off a great event at the home of the England national team.
“Everyone taking part will have played a part in raising money for our continuing support of the globally significant and life-saving work of the staff at the Centre for Clinical Haematology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and across the Midlands.
“We have set a fundraising target of £50,000 for the event, which would fund one of our specialist research nurses for one year to ensure patients that have exhausted standard treatment options can continue to access the latest, pioneering treatments for blood cancer.”
The plan is for 16 teams to take part in the event, which takes place at St George’s Park on the afternoon and evening of Friday, November 23rd.
Several teams have already been snapped up so anyone interested is advised to book as quickly as possible. To express and interest or book a team, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
