It’s the world’s largest and most popular marathon, with more than 100,000 applicants every year and we have guaranteed places for you to join Cure Leukaemia’s biggest team ever in the Big Apple on Sunday 4th November.
Back in 2008, Cure Leukaemia Patron and former Crystal Palace and England footballer Geoff Thomas, completed the New York Marathon just five years after being diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia. Ten years on, Geoff will take on the challenge again and we we are inviting you to run alongside him and raise valuable funds to help stop 14,000 people dying each year of blood cancer across the UK.
Geoff said, “I ran the New York Marathon with a group of friends back in 2008 three years after I was declared in remission from CML. 10 years on I am excited to have the opportunity to run again for Cure Leukaemia and I hope we will have a very strong team pounding the streets of the Big Apple this November.
It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, or twice in my case, and I look forward to helping the team raise vital funds for a transformative charity.
The progress that has been made in blood cancer treatment in those 10 years has been remarkable thanks to the work of charities like Cure Leukaemia and with continued support for this work it is inspiring to think where we might be in another decade.”
Starting on Staten Island, the 26.2 mile route takes in all the major sights including Central Park, the Statue of Liberty and the five boroughs of New York City.
