Relive Just One More Month

Throughout the month of September, we are once again encouraging our supporters and the wider public to help us raise £40,000 during Blood Cancer Awareness month!

Keep up to date with what's going on during the month through our LIVE updates below that will be updated each day! Get involved by tweeting @CureLeukaemia using #J1M or send us your pictures and fundraising plans to beinspired@cureleukaemia.co.uk

11.30am

Forgotten to wear your red piece of clothing today? Fear not - you can still help us reach the magic £40,000 target to fund 'Just One More' nurse by sponsoring one!!

The wonderful Donna Walsh is jumping out of a plane on Sunday for Cure Leukaemia and you can sponsor her by clicking HERE. Donna is doing this in memory of one of her patients called James Cunningham who sadly passed away earlier this summer. James (pictured with Donna below) loved the charity and before he died convinced friends, family members and Donna to do a skydive. Due to bad weather, Donna's jump has be rescheduled for Sunday - please show your support.

Donna's heartfelt reason for doing this is beautifully written by her on the JustGiving page - please take a few moments to read it HERE

FRIDAY 30TH SEPTEMBER - 11.15AM

Right folks, here we go then. The last day of Blood Cancer Awareness Month and 'Wear Red Day.' Loads of people are wearing red for us today - please send in your photos and you may make it onto here!

Thursday 29th September - 2.45pm

Some of you might have seen there is a certain cycling event that has gone live for Cure Leukaemia in the last 24 hours and this has kept the CL office very busy! However, we are all set for 'Wear Red Day' which is tomorrow. It's not too late to get involved because it is very, very easy to do so!

Simply inform your staff, pupils, teachers, teammates, girlfriends, boyfriends, dads, mums, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, grandparents, neices, nephews and cousins to wear a RED PIECE OF CLOTHING TOMORROW. Hopefully they will all agree to this and hopefully they will also agree to donate £1 to Cure Leukaemia for doing so. So simple, but potentially so effective.

Help us make Friday Sepetmber 30th a red day and finish Blood Cancer Awareness Month off with bang. Tomorrow's fundraising could determine whether we have helped fund 'Just One More' nurse again this year. Send us your pictures using the hashtag #J1M or #WearRedDay and please have fun!

Tuesday 27th September - 9.50am

Morning all, bikes have been very much part of Cure Leukaemia's fundraising in recent years and we have had some bike-related fundraising for 'Just One More' this month.

Our friends at Crown Computing encouraged clients of theirs to ride a static bike at a recent convention to raise funds and in total £500 was raised for us. Thanks to all involved and to read more click HERE

12.52pm

Right, you're up-to-date, for now! I should just say though that our very own nurse Donna Walsh is yet to do her skydive in memory of James, and, weather permitting she will do so on Sunday October 2nd (next weekend). Donna was James' nurse and they were both central to our first ever 'Just One More' campaign this time last year. Donna's fundraising page can be found HERE and it is one of the most beautifully written JustGiving pages I have ever read. Donna has raised over £1,300 so far.

12.40pm

I'll be honest here - I'm struggling to keep up with all of this. It is so fantastic to see so many people fundraising for us during blood cancer awareness month and this weekend saw 3 wonderful folk jump out of a plane to raise funds! David, Kimberley and Carl all completed their postponed jumps on Saturday in memory of James Cunningham. David is pictured below and to make a donation click on the respective names here: DavidKimberleyCarl

12.18pm

It's 22 minutes since the last piece of good news I gave you so high time for some more don't you think? On Friday last week staff from Shropshire firm Paveaways embarked on a walk from Knockin to Tywyn on the Welsh coast in fancy dress to raise funds in support of their colleague Neil Holding who was diagnosed with ALL earlier this year. They all completed the 80+ mile walk on Sunday and they have currently raised over £12,000 for Cure Leukaemia - a phenomenal effort. You can still donate to their cause HERE

12.07am

Who wants some more good news? You do? Excellent, here is some more for you. Our wonderful charity partner Malmaison Birmingham has been fundraising all through September and last Friday all the staff stepped back in time and donned 1950's attire for the day. Well done all, more on costumes later.

11.50am

The good news keeps on coming - over £400 was raised at Alan Hyatt's birthday party this month and the Hyatt's were delighted to give the cheque to Cure Leukaemia CEO James McLaughlin at their beloved Edgbaston.

11.42am

We wondered whether Adam and co could beat the total raised in 2014 and along with 24 fellow firefighters and 25 paramedics from the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity that is exactly what they have done! 50 consecutive hours running in a human hamster wheel and over £8,800 raised for two fantastic charities. Thank you to everybody involved with making it possible and if you would like to donate to the cause click HEREWell done guys and gals!

10:27am

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh mysterious girllll - oops, we got carried away there but it's not everyday that a global superstar stops for a picture to promote Blood Cancer Awareness Month and that's exactly what Peter Andre did when he was visited by leukaemia patient Fiona Codd and her friend Jess Hempshall! Earlier this year, Jess did her own fundraising for Cure Leukaemia when she raised £500 cutting off her hair!

Monday 12th September - 9:46am

British weather 1 - 0 Skydivers!

The rain, wind and cloud proved too much this weekend as the group skydive was unfortunatelly cancelled at 3pm in the afternoon despite our best efforts! However, the skydivers will return to Hinton airfield on Tuesday to try again - with the weather set to be sunny at 30 degrees!

13:57pm

One of our most iconic fundraisers, James Gittins, will be fundraising at Kings Heath Cricket Club this Sunday at their Family Fun Day to raise money in memory of Andy Payne who sadly died following his battle with leukaemia earlier this year. Andy was at the forefront of our Great Birmingham Run campaign and all of the money raised on Sunday will go towards his son, Tom, and his fundraising for the Great Birmingham Run on October 16th.

In September 2013 Brooke was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia at the age of 17 - now 20, Brooke received treatment from Cure Leukaemia and is currently studying to be a student nurse at the University Of Worcester, hoping that one day she too can give life saving treatment to others.

The Cure Leukaemia office are practicising what we preach this year!

Thursday 1st September - 9am

Blood Cancer Awareness Month has got off to an oar-some start in Birmingham thanks to a record donation from Brindleyplace to Cure Leukaemia.

Earlier this summer, almost 200 city professionals battled it out along the Birmingham and Worcester canal in Chinese longboats at the 17th annual Brindleyplace Dragonboat Race.

Beating all previous years, participants – including headline sponsor, Deutsche Ban – raised a staggering £70,374; enough to fund a specialist research nurse for 18 months.
